I’ve Moved!!

Just coasting

It’s official. Wedding season in Cape Town has officially flounced it’s way in to everyone’s schedules! I am a big fan of marriage. Even more so when it’s one of my friends who decides to tie the knot. This past weekend I had the pleasure of celebrating one such friend’s wedding. For a while now I’ve been wanting to try a small, but cute DIY project and this wedding presented me with the perfect opportunity – make em some coasters as a gift!

After some scamping, paint testing, paint-stained fingernails and late nights, my determination paid off & I was the proud designer of 6 pretty simple coasters. This friend is a fashion designer, so I knew that even if she hated my design, she’d be able to appreciate the creative effort & process (AND FUN!) that went it to making them.

So, who’s getting married next? I may try & go bigger. Next…PLACEMATS. DUM DUM DUM!

Farewell Mandela

mandelaI’ve never known such sadness to sweep not only a nation, but the world. To sweep humanity. A man of honour, patience and determination, last night we said goodbye to an icon. A hero. A colossus. I have never felt so patriotic and connected to every South African in my 24 years of life. In times of sadness people become united. Because regardless of colour, religion or culture, human beings recognize pain and our natural inclination is to console those we relate to. Let us keep his legacy alive!

Farewell Madiba

IF: Tails…or a Tale of Two Tails

Tale of Two Tails

The word for this week’s Illustration Friday was “tail”. The first thing I thought of was a peacock. Naaah, not really up my alley. And then after a while, I couldn’t get the image of a couple with animal faces out of my head. So this is the product. Because animals fall in love too right? OR at least, I fall in love with them (my cat). Cat lady. Cough.

This week has been ridiculously busy, but I find that no matter how messy my brain gets, I have to take the time to just play a little, to clear up all the fog.

The Ram

About a year ago, I was commissioned to illustrate a series of drawings  for a popular fashion magazine here in South Africa. This was one of the first “scamps” or “attempts” I made at trying to capture the spirit of fashion…and a ram. I meant to post it such a long time ago, but here you go. Personally, I love it a lot because it was a style that, at the time, I was just beginning to explore. Plus, mess with her and she’ll ram you. Get it? Because horns and…agh, never mind.

IF: Creature…and Halloween

Er, are you supposed to be scary?

Er, are you supposed to be scary?

This is an illustration I did such a long time ago. One of those forgotten little pieces that I stumbled upon today. And well timed as well, considering Halloween was yesterday.

I really love this kid’s complete and utter lack of conviction of this ghost’s scariness. He needs to step up his game! She is awesome. He needs to work harder. I feel like an unlikely friendship will develop here. Hope everyone had a great Hallow’s Eve!

Monster friend

It’s been a ridiculous amount of time since I last posted. Admittedly I had a bit of “illustrator’s Block” (is that a thing?) Anyway, I think it’s gone now. And this is the result 🙂
